COMMUNAL MUSIC MAKING

Episode 9 of #BACH52 is now live!

This episode features an interview with Kate Sheeran who is the Executive Director of Kaufman Music Center and soon-to-be Dean of the Eastman School of Music.

In the interview, Kate speaks powerfully about the inspiring work they do at Kaufman, and how Bach can serve as a valuable role model for today’s young musicians. She also describes the vision behind the Kaufman Artist in Residence program she initiated, and which I’ve been honored to be a part of all season.

My Artist Residency at Kaufman came to a close May 30, with a recital with Myra Huang and the Jasper Strng Quartet, featuring a world premiere song cycle by Vivian Fung that features poetry by Claire Wahmanholm and the students at Kaufman.

I’m so grateful to Kate for having me this season, and to her amazing team for coordinating all the complex moving parts of this past nine months. It’s been an incredibly inspiring and transformative experience to have so much time with these amazing young people. The future is bright in these very capable young hands.

The featured aria is taken from BWV 157 and features oboist Debra Nagy, cellist Elisabeth Reed, and organist Corey Jamason..
